<i>Stenotrophomonas maltophilia</i> Infection in Trauma and Orthopedic Patients: Clinical Experience and Review

Background. Stenotrophomonas maltophilia (S. maltophilia) is a gram-negative non-fermenting bacillus and rare pathogen of orthopedic infection. Due to the relatively low virulence S. maltophilia, many clinicians are still faced with question whether this bacterial species simply colonizing agent or true cause infection.
 Aim study raise awareness practitioners about as Methods. A retrospective analysis was performed concerning frequency isolation from patients treated at Vreden Center for periprosthetic infection and/or osteomyelitis January 1, 2009 October 31, 2022. The literature search by keywords carried out in PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, eLIBRARY, Cyberleninka databases. retrieved 587 articles published Russian English over period 2012 November 2022.
 Results. During period, 9 cases monoinfection were identified aged 36 83 years.
